| TitaniumWebs.com provides a very secure and protected
POP/webmail system. To accommodate this, there are a few general and
special settings to take into account when configuring your POP email
client (such as Outlook, Eudora, Netscape, etc). Please see below
for a step-by-step guide to configuring Outlook Express.
Please ensure that "Secure Password Authentication" (SPA) is DISABLED. You may either use your own ISP's SMTP server for outgoing emails, or the TitaniumWebs.com server. If you use our server, you must enable the appropriate option in your client, instructing it to use your username and password on the outgoing server. In Outlook, this option is labeled"My server requires authentication." This option will use the same user/pass as the inbound server. |

Logging In is Easy as 1 - 2 - 3!
- Access the webmail login page, at http://webmail.yourdomain.com
Enter your full email address and password in the appropriate boxes.- Click Sign In
Once logged in, the system shows you your present quotas in size on disk, and number of messages. This is displayed as a graph underneath the primary menu, at the left.
Set Up Your Mailbox to Forward Mail to Another Address
Once logged in to the Webmail, click Options from the menu on the left. Click MDaemon Settings from the Options list. This will pop open a new browser window and log you into the Administration area. Click My Account from the menu at the left of the new window. Input the destination email address into the Forwarding Address(es) box. Change This Account Is Currently Forwarding Mail to Yes If you want to strictly BOUNCE emails to the new address (basically redirection), then change the Retain A Copy Of Forwarded Mail option to No. If you wish to simply COPY emails to the forwarding address, but still receive those emails in your TitaniumWebs account, leave this option as Yes. A copy of the email will then be sent to your forwarding address anytime new mail is received.- Be sure to click Save Changes when finished!
Changing the Appearance of Webmail
Once logged in to the Webmail, click Options from the menu on the left. Click Personalize from the Options list. You may now choose your preferred Language, Theme (layout and colours), refresh time, etc etc. Be sure to click Finished at the bottom or top to save your changes!Setup an Auto-Responder
Once logged in to the Webmail, click Options from the menu on the left. Click MDaemon Settings from the Options list. This will pop open a new browser window and log you into the Administration area. Click My Account from the menu at the left of the new window. Enter your Auto-Response text into the Auto-responder Text box. This text will be sent as a reply to ANYONE that emails your account. The Auto-Responder will only send the information once every 24 hours to the same sender; this means that even if someone sends you 20 emails in one day, they will only receive one Auto-Response. Be sure to click Save Changes when finished! To clear your Auto-Responder (to shut it off), simply clear the Auto-responder Text box, and click Save Changes.
The Easy Way Part I -- via WebMail
Once logged in to the Webmail, click Options from the menu on the left. Click MDaemon Settings from the Options list. This will pop open a new browser window and log you into the Administration area. Click My Account from the menu at the left of the new window. Simply replace the dots in the password fields with your new password, then click Save Changes.Remember: Once you set your password, there is no way to retrieve it! If you loose or forget your password, please contact us and we will reset your password.
We can override (change) an email password, but we cannot find out what is currently set. This is for your protection, as the system uses a one-way encryption method. When a new password is set, it is encrypted and the encrypted value is stored. Subsequent logins are verified by encrypting the supplied password at login, and comparing the encrypted value to the stored value. If they match, then you're in. There is no way to decrypt the value once set, so we can only replace a lost password with a new one.
The Easy Way Part II -- via Email (POP) You must be using pop.titaniumwebs.com as your Outgoing mail server address to do the following
Start a new email. You can also click here to skip Step 2. Input the following address in the To: field: MDaemon@company.mail Your Subject line must contain your full email address and current password. It should be formatted like this:
your@email.address, password
(Please note the comma and space following the email address!) Ensure your email is being sent in Plain Text, not HTML or Rich Text. In Outlook Express, you can change/check this by looking under the Format menu of your email in progress, then make sure Plain Text is marked. In the body of the message, on the first line, type the word "PASSWORD", a space, then your NEW password. The word "PASSWORD" must be in all uppercase, however your password may be however you like. Please note that passwords are case-sensitive! Here is an example:
PASSWORD myNewPass Now, simply send the email. It can take up to 5 minutes to process, but is usually effective in under 1 minute. Once the change takes place, your email client will likely start prompting you for a new password, as your old one will no longer work. Simply enter the new password and that's it! Within 2-10 minutes, the mail server will email you a confirmation that your password was changed. It will not state the new password in the email. We strongly advise that you delete your command email from your Sent Items for your own security, since this email will contain your new and old passwords. In Outlook Express, you can permanently delete an email by selecting the email and pressing SHIFT-DEL. This bypasses the Trash and deletes the email completely.
Accessing the Control System (Usermin)
The Control System (Usermin) is accessible at http://yourdomain/cpanel Once at that location, simply enter your account name and password. Your password was selected when you first signed up, and would have been emailed to you in the confirmation letter when your account was activated. Like with email passwords, there is no way to retrieve a lost password; it must be reset/replaced with a new password. If you've lost your password, please contact us.
Your login remains active unless there are no new commands (clicks) for more than 10 minutes. After 10 minutes of inactivity, you will be required to log in again.
Options in Usermin and their purpose
This is a list of the modules available to you in the Control System (Usermin).
Change Language Set your desired display language for Usermin (Default is English) Change Password Change your Webspace Password Change Theme Change the Usermin display theme (colours and layout). File Manager View your entire account file space in an Explorer/File Manager-style interface (Java Applet) MySQL Database Set up and customize your MySQL Database(s). Add/Remove/Modify Tables, fields, and data through this handy web-based interface. Requires your specific MySQL login name and password, this is not usually the same as your account name and password. Protected Web Directories View and modify any .htaccess files to control secured access to web directories. SSH/Telnet Login Logs into the shell via a Java Terminal using SSH. You must enter your account name and password to gain access. Knowledge of at least basic Linux commands is a MUST; it IS possible to incidentally remove or alter data in your webspace, possibly resulting in your website becoming inaccessible or worse. We provide SSH access for use at your own risk. Please do not rely on our backups to correct any mishaps. If you run into trouble, please contact us.
Upload and Download Allows web-based upload/download of files into/from your webspace. Running Processes A rather detailed listing of your running processes (programs). Normally, there should be only a few items here. System Documentation Explore the MAN files, and other documentation related to Linux and its software.
Access the Control System (Usermin) and click the Change Password option under Tools. You will need to enter the old (current) password, then the new password twice. Submit it, and your new password is active immediately!
You can manually set up tables and fields (and even data) using the Control System (Usermin). Once logged in, click on MySQL Database under Tools. You will then be prompted for your MySQL login and password. The MySQL login and password will usually be the same as your normal login/pass. This information was provided to you when your MySQL database was setup. Contact us if you've lost this information.
This interface allows you to create, delete, and modify tables in your database, as well as enter, modify, and delete fields and data within each table!
Once you login to the MySQL module the first time, it will save your connection details and you shouldn't have to provide login details (for MySQL, using this interface) in future.
Once logged in, you will be able to see all names of the databases on the system, but will only have access to your own. Simply click on your database to select it for editing.
Here are some connection details for your scripts (PHP, Perl, etc):
Database Host localhost Login/Username Your webspace username/account ID Password Your webspace password Database Name Usually this is your username followed by a number, eg titanium1 Please note that the MySQL server can ONLY be accessed via LocalHost, for security reasons. This does mean you cannot connect to our MySQL server from websites that reside outside our system, as the MySQL service is intended only for use by websites hosted by TitaniumWebs.com
As you may already know, TitaniumWebs.com does provide site design services at reasonable rates. We are available to design your entire site, renovate your existing site, or simply maintain your website. We are available through our package deals, a la carte (flat rates per page), or by the minute (minimum 30 minutes per session). For some good design resources, we suggest Google as the best place to start. This link brings up some excellent starting points, via Google.
A formatting problem has begun cropping up all over the web with regard to smart quotes and special characters, such as © “ ” ‘ ’ and so on. This especially problematic when composing a document in Microsoft products, such as Word, Publisher, FrontPage, etc, and then outputting them to a web page file, or copy/pasting them into an HTML document.
Microsoft "Smart Quotes" features sadly do not follow internationally accepted encoding standards, as are used by website browsers. As such, these characters will often either not be displayed at all, or will be displayed simply as a question mark ?
Understandably, this is a problem for web designers, since it makes your site look like you never proofread it. The tragic part is that the characters will likely look perfectly fine in your editor, but will not translate when viewed on a browser.
There is a long technical explanation for why this is so, however the simple fact is that it exists.
The Solution:
The solution to this issue is to set the web page encoding to UTF-8 rather than the default encoding assigned by your editor. There ar several ways to accomplish this:Directly in your HTML code - near the beginning of each web page, ensure that the encoding is set to UTF-8, using a tag like this:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
In FrontPage - When creating a new site, or updating an existing one, go to the Tools menu and select Site Settings... Then choose the Language tab and change the Default Page Encoding to Unicode (UTF-8).
Additionally, for your existing pages, sadly you must alter each one individually. Open each page in Design view and right-click somewhere in the body of the page. Select Page Properties... and then the Language tab again. In the Save the document as: field, change it to Unicode (UTF-8). Finally, re-save your page and FrontPage will do the necessary conversions for those special characters.
In other editors - You may need to locate where the Document Encoding preferences are set, and again change them to UTF-8 or Unicode UTF-8.
This will not affect most fonts, merely the way that the browser will map the characters.
As a final note, consider using proper coding for certain characters. For example, the © symbol can be universally created using © in your source HTML code.
